ABOUT US

HOBART is committed to offering clients a combination of expertise, service, and confidentiality designed to protect their personal property assets.

Kathryn Wilen Hobart, ASA

Kathryn Hobart founded Hobart Associates, Inc. with the concept of offering a complete personal property appraisal service across the spectrum of fine and decorative art.  As a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) for over thirty years, she sets the highest professional standards for the specialists who work with her.  Kathryn has appraised artwork and objects ranging from a rare early American chest on stand with a documented provenance originating from President John Adams to a contemporary glass cupola raised on a dome by Michelangelo. She has worked extensively on complex appraisals of private and museum collections, artists’ estates and corporate assets. She and the HOBART team have a firm understanding of the concepts of value and the applications of value relevant to each individual appraisal.

Lisa Costa, ASA

The valuation of a work of art or object depends on understanding style, technique, and materials.  In fine art appraisal work, Lisa finds her background in art history is enhanced by her experience as an artist. A senior member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) with a specialization in Fine Art since 2004, Lisa takes pride in her attention to details and tenacious research skills.  Joining the HOBART team in 1995, she sees helping clients manage their art collections as a significant part of her role as an appraiser. Lisa has completed qualified donation appraisals for artworks gifted to numerous American museums, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Crocker Museum, Cantor Arts Center, the National Gallery of Art, the National Portrait Gallery, Renwick Gallery, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as various foundations, libraries, and universities.

Elizabeth Conlan

Elizabeth Conlan has over 20 years of experience appraising furniture and decorative arts. Prior to her placement at HOBART in 2016, she worked at several auction houses, holding positions from Department Manager to Director of the Furniture Department. During her tenure in the auction field, Elizabeth trained staff in cataloguing and coordinated online sales. Additionally, she produced onsite appraisal events for museums and other charitable organizations. She holds a Masters of Philosophy degree in Furniture and Decorative Arts from the University of Glasgow, an intensive program under the auspices of Christie’s, London. At HOBART Elizabeth uses her market expertise to advise clients on options for buying and selling individual pieces or large collections. She further assists clients in managing the disposition of estates, including equitable distribution and sale.
